Selecting
There are so many types of delicious apples. Sweet and juicy, sharp and tangy, firm and crunchy, ... Which sort do you prefer?
Storing
Keep your apples cool. They lose flavor and crispness in warm temperatures. Can be kept in your refrigerator for up to 6 weeks.
Eating
Apples are the perfect snack – natural, nutritious and easy to eat out of your hand. Always wash apples before you take your first crunch. Same for cooking; wash the fruit first.
Varieties
The following DOLE Apple varieties are available in Europe:
Braeburn
Bright red or red with a greenish gold color, these attractive apples have a rich, sweet-tart flavor with a hint of spiciness.
Cripps Pink (Pink Lady®)
The skin has a yellow undertone with distinctive pink blush. Crunch through and you discover a firm, cream-colored flesh with a sweet to tart taste. Also perfect for salads since this variety does not "brown" when sliced.
Fuji
A big, super-sweet apple with pronounced flavor that originally came from Japan. Skin color ranges from yellow-green with red highlights through to very red.
Golden Delicious
Popular for its mellow sweet flavor and firm white flesh. Skin color is yellow-green. A great all-rounder, for eating in the hand, in salads, or for cooking and baking.
Granny Smith
One of Europe's favorites, with plenty of crunch and a very tart flavor. Recognizable by its natural, bright green color with a slight pink blush.
Red Delicious
A classic and perfect for snacking out of the hand. This heart-shaped apple is bright shiny red, very crunchy, with a mildly sweet flavor.
Royal Gala
One of the softer eating apples, ideal if you have sensitive gums or wear dentures. Smaller than average, with a sweet and aromatic flavor. Skin is yellow-orange with vertical red striping.
... whichever variety you buy, always choose apples that are firm and smooth without bruises or damage to the skin.
