Dole Iceberg Lettuces

About Iceberg Lettuce

  • There are many different lettuce types but iceberg is one of the favorites
  • It is sturdy with a large, firm head that looks like a small green cabbage
  • The rather thick leaves are nicely crispy and have the advantage of remaining firm long after being picked

Selecting

Select a compact iceberg with fresh-looking leaves. The lettuce head should give slightly when you apply gentle pressure. DOLE Iceberg Lettuces are hand picked, trimmed and packed into cartons in the field. They are then transported in cool containers to ensure they arrive fresh and crispy in your store.

Storing

You can clean lettuces before storage, removing the core and any wilted outer leaves before rinsing under running tap water. Be sure to allow the water to run through the head to refresh it. Then turn the lettuce over and let the water run out. Store in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Eating

If not already cleaned, wash your lettuce carefully in cold water and pat dry. Limp leaves can be revived by immersing them in ice water for a few minutes.

Iceberg lettuce makes a beautifully crisp, fresh and tasty base for salads. The rest is up to you!
