Apples for schools in Hamburg
Dole Germany supplied apples to 14 schools in Hamburg during the 5 A Day “Eat colorful and healthy” campaign. On October 11th the senator for education and sport in Hamburg, Mrs. Dinges-Dierig, was present at one school in order to attend the lesson about healthy nutrition with fruit and vegetables and distributed the apples to the pupils. On that occasion, a nutritionist explained several important facts to live a healthy lifestyle everyday. Dole supported this campaign providing information brochures, leaflets and delicious fresh fruit.
Dole is a member of “Initiative für gesunde und sichere Ernährung mit Obst und Gemüse e.V.”, which organized in cooperation with the 5 A Day campaign, the distribution of 250.000 apples in about 700 schools throughout Germany.
5 A Day in Germany: Games, Fun and Healthy Diet
More and more children are overweight. This is a public health issue throughout Europe and was the main topic of the German 5-A-Day promotion campaign “Eat colorful and healthy” which took place between 13th and 20th October 2007. The objective of the promotion was to bring across the message that “if you eat fruit and vegetables regularly you will live a healthier life”. Dole Germany sponsored two in-door playgrounds in Hamburg (INDOO Ahrensburg" and "rabatzz!) during the 5- A-Day promotion campaign. Families had fun with games and activities focused on healthy nutrition. The Dole Team arranged games where children were challenged to identify fruits and vegetables just by smelling and touching them. There was an abundance of prizes for the winners – small Dole trucks, DVDs, breakfast trays, fruit bags, caps, bookmarks and balloons as well as handy pineapple peelers for the parents. Educational material was made available to explain the campaign and Dole provided numerous product sampling during the week.
Sponsorship: Hamburg City Triathlon
For the sixth year, Dole Germany sponsored the Hamburg City Triathlon last year.
Once again, Dole supplied bananas and oranges to the athletes. The event received extensive media coverage, including television, and very high interest from professional athletes who already had the chance to test the event that was part of the world 2007 championships. Furthermore, Dole ran a competition inviting people to place bets and estimate the winning time. The winner of the 8-day holiday for two in Hawaii actually guessed the exact time!
