About Red Romaine Lettuce

  • Often used in Caesar salads, this attractive lettuce has long, crunchy, spoon-shaped leaves with red fringes and a large vein running down the centre
  • The tender inner leaves have a yellowish rib and surround a sweet, crispy, creamy heart
  • Also known as “cos” lettuce (said to have originated on the Greek island of Kos)

Selecting

Purchase a healthy-looking romaine lettuce with deep green, crisp and undamaged leaves.

Storing

You can keep it for a week or so in the drawer of your refrigerator

Eating

Rinse it quickly under cold tap water and dab dry before gently tearing off the leaves. It goes particularly well with robust dressings or a spicy Caesar salad.
